Hi Marion,

Let me say from the outset that I don't believe that language can accurately
describe the void state. But that doesn't mean I won't have a go :)

I don't think that I see it in the same way as other people. A lot of the
stuff that I have read about the void characterises it as an absence and a
surrendering of the self/personality/ego. I think that it is more about
gaining the consciousness of everything else around you. By "surrendering"
you are not negating /denying/
freeing your self but rather opening yourself up to absorbing everything at
once. Rather than everything becoming one and narrowing to a single point I
think that the void is about a single narrow point (the self) opening up to
a boundless and endless stream/streams of collected consciousness. While it
surrenders its control and its boundaries the self nonetheless remains aware
of itself. Otherwise you would lose your consciousness is the void state and
I don't see how or why you would emerge from it.

I liken the void to whiteness. Many see white as an absence of colour. But
technically it is an an amalgam of colours just as the void is created from
the "consciousness" - for want of a better term" of all things.

As for the fear I think it comes from the sheer expansiveness and freedom of
it all. Its a bit like being a very little kid in a monumental playground
and trying to take it all in.

Define your view of what the void is then. Do you mean that if you are
still there, still in the personality, you can't be in the void at all?
I've been in that state (though just the once, and don't ask me how I got
there because I have no idea)
It's the subtlest state of the witness - well subtlest so far as I currently
know - and not scary at all. In fact it's rather 'enlightening.'

So..if that is the void...it just means void of personality/ego. That's not
scary.
