Dear deesutra,

A cigarette story.

 I was a chain smoker in the late 60's early 70's. About 2 packs a day. I
was living at the time in a cabin among the redwood. I told myself I wasn't
addicted but just enjoyed smoking! LOL!

One day I was blissfully enjoying my surroundings outside under a giant tree
when the awful thought came to me. What if I run out of cigarettes?! !!!!
Panic very nearly set in.

Then I received the message. "don't worry. it won't ever be a problem."

Odd, I thought! Will cigarettes always be available to me when I need them?

A week or so later I was again sitting under the tree and suddenly said to
myself, "This is really stupid! Here I am in paradise, smoking cigarettes!"
I stopped right then and never picked up another.

So it was that running out of cigarettes never became a problem! ;) But I
dreamt of them for years afterwards! I knew I could never smoke again.

Nicotine is more addicting than heroin. It's not easy to quit, so don't be
too hard on yourself. The mind may want to, but the body has other ideas. But
to feel that our bodies control our brains is hard to accept.

I found that keeping glasses of water everywhere within arms reach really
helped me. (Also an occasional marijauana tote helped too!)

Love, Hillary

Sigh. After 12 days of no smoking I finally got so very tired of being split
in two. Both wanting and not wanting (a cigarette) whilst endeavoring to
surrender to what the energy within has become
