Rich,

Maybe the mind thinking that something has to die, keeps the illusion of fear and hope alive. Resistance is automatically triggered, and now one is in a battle against something. But isn't it the mind battling the mind, in its own loop of illusion?

Another perspective: why not step outside the little me (thoughts, feelings, judgements, physical body, etc), and check out the world from another view. Sort of like an actor, playing different parts in different movies-watching yourself act in this drama. Seeing how that works. The ego will start to loose power automatically when you stop operating from it. More like disengaging the gears that keep it in power. One just has to stop buying into their own belief's. Isn't what you wrote just a listing of your own belief's?

There is no death. Things just change form or shift. Energy into matter, matter to energy.

Death of the ego...this seems to me to be a belief that duality is real. It seems to me that the concept of death can only exist in a world of duality. If one experiences the world beyond duality, there is the realization that everything is alive, living, and perfect, and nothing ever dies, just changes form. It feels more like the ego is simply disengaged, or overrided by the true power of spirit. Seen more like just a part of the body, like a hand or eye. No more important than anything else. Nor an enemy.

Hmm, I wonder why there is so much fear about surrendering, for the ego. As soon as the ego hears that word, it goes into defense mode, gets out the armor, and builds fortresses. I imagine because it feels attacked-surrender implies that a battle is taking place, so who wouldn't defend themselves? Perhaps it'd make more sense, and disengage the ego in an easier way, if we used the word yield, or assent, or comply with?

Just thinking aloud about all of this. And wondering. Only my thoughts and ramblings.

Mara

The I, I cling to in fear and hope.

The illusion and façade I live by.

Then when that is dead I can see for the first time.

That everything is illusion.

Except the hollow beckoning of incessant love, stillness, and silent wisdom.
