Helps if you try to see the inability to feel gratitude as a 'won't',
rather than a 'can't'. Which part of a person is "unable" to express
gratitude? insert Bob Marley voice: Life a gift, mon. Give tanks.
The reasons for doing so are as close as your own beating heart.

Gratitude isn't exactly a feeling, but more of a knowing, tending toward
a state of being. It's a distinct type of energy you can tap into, very
much like love. It provides the rather pleasant side effect (in me,
anyway, when I focus on it) of pulsating, electrical, surging waves of
bliss expanding from the heart chakra to the extremities.

Take a look at who's refusing to be grateful.
Consciously ask your self: "Who is refusing to be grateful?"

Meditation can help reveal the perspective of gratitude. Even initially;
brief microseconds of freedom from the ego's self-onslaught can
trigger invaluable bursts of insight. Step right up! cue: circus music

Close your eyes and look for colored lights. Notice how they jiggle
and shimmer with each thought. See if you can get them to be still.

Or take the long way round, and find the One Who Is. Which is the same
thing actually, once you see it, you are it. (There's only One, thank god)

Depression is the ego beating the crap out of itself and then
wallowing in self pity, thereby maintaining control through sheer
overload of "feelings". Let em go. Surrender them up to the big
whatever. Cry out to Mother/Father/Godess/Angels to take away the needs,
resentments, judgements and eeevil wicked machinations of the nasty,
grandstanding little ego monster.

Hook up with something good. Feel the power and the awe. Give Thanks.
