Dear Paul,

When a person, especially one who does Eastern practices, experiences strong
energy I tend to call it Kundalini awakening whether or not the spine is
directly involved. You might try circulating the energy by placing your tongue
against the roof of your mouth.

Whew! Nothing like cause and effect and not listening to what the energy is
telling you! :)) Once Kundalini is activated there is really no need to do
any practices. Kundalini energy will take over and do the "work" itself.
Often, in fact, as in your case, zazen practice is probably ill-advised. I agree
with others that physical practices to clear energy paths might be
helpful--especially Hatha Yoga, in my experience.

life.

Well, people react to the energy in different ways. Preconceived ideas of
"enlightenment" often tend to get in the way. Some people simply see the energy
as physical sensation--others see it metaphysically.

As for practice, Swami Shivom Tirth in A Guide to Shaktipat writes

"Once Shakti is awakened...,,,we do not advocate any sort of spiritual
practices but propose a passivity and surrender to the spontaneity of all active
energy....You may wonder that I am speaking against some systems of spiritual
practices which, in fact, is not true. I simply want to state here that if you
continue to be interested in such a system, even after the awakening of your
Shakti, it is because of your attachment with it (the system). Such attachments
have their origin in the accumulated effects of past deeds. The awakened
Shakti is capable of thinning them out by their manifestation into action. You
may even continue to follow two types of your practices for some time, but it
is certain that the practices performed with the feeling of doership will
gradually be substituted by those without it." p.77/78

Elsewhere he seems to imply that we don't really need to do *any* practices
once the energy starts working on us! Practices after K awakening can prove to
be interference with the energy.

Love, Hillary
