I've had over a year and a half of NET (neuro-emotional technique) and for
the longest while, I kept coming back to the same things, the same problems.
It turns out that there were a whole whack of things involved in my lack of
self-love, from not accepting myself (which I didn't -- how could I if I
didn't love myself?) to a fear of rejection/abandonment, even stuff like
procrastination. For me, the latter illustrates how my habits/behaviour are
indicators of how much I'm busy not loving myself. Fear came up more than
anything else.

The NET alone wasn't getting me total self-acceptance, because I wasn't
supporting it at home, so to speak. While I like the idea of a magic pill
as well as anybody, it was not to be. That became obvious when stuff I'd
covered in the NET sessions came back, so I decided I needed to do something
more to effect the change I wanted. This took a fair bit of reading, some
workshops and talking with knowledgeable (and successful) people. The
answer came in the form of (active) meditation and affirmations. Both these
approaches appeal to my rather laid-back approach to life -- I don't find it
an onerous task to say with feeling "I love me" (I use different
intonation/emphasis each time, which helps to keep me from drifting off in
my head). I also muscle test when I do affirmations, which may bolster the
effect and, at the least, keep me focused.

To be fair, I wasn't initially looking to be able to say "I love me" and
mean it (and wouldn't that be counter-intuitive?). At this point, though, I
can look at myself in the mirror and say the simple phrase without cringing.
The benefits I've accrued from being able to do this are pretty significant.

Thanks so much for your questions, Rick, it feels good, and very helpful, to
be able to say these things 'out loud'.
