Hello Hillary and thank-you ever so much for your kind
reply. Yes, I think if we examine the record of the
mystics, what made them mystics was some form of a
lifestyle, which they often called something like "the
way the truth and the life," which is what both dharma
and Tao means. It was this "lifestyle" that was what
they believe caused there ecstatic life to emerge.

Now the question for those who would like to live a
life that is saturated and suffused with ecstasy, is
what constitutes a "way truth and life" that will lead
to ecstasy in every waking moment?

Since you mentioned Ramana Maharshi, might I point out
that the key Advaitan (non-dualist) figures in the
last 150 years, Ramana Maharshi, Vivekananda, and Sri
Ramakrishna, all led a contemplative life that was
based upon a formal meditation practice. Also, may I
point out that too often a contemplative life is
contextualized within a formal "technique." May I
also point out that a technique is nothing more than a
psychosomatic process that one engages in with the
express purpose of giving rise to a religious
experience, which is called by many names, but I will
take 'ecstasy' as a reasonable English equivalent for
this conversation.

The point here is the experience of ecstasy is apart
from the technique. However, if the technique is
executed properly, as well as establishing other
necessary preconditions, then ecstasy will arise.
However, ecstasy itself is not a technique or solely a
consequence of a technique.

Many kind regards,

Jeff Brooks

Hi Michael,

Whew! I think this guy has been smoking too much
weed.

I do agree that secret societies are anathema to
either true democracy or an open society, but this
guy seems to be way caught up with conspiracy
theories--including the ultimate granddaddy conspiracy
theory concerning Jesus vs Satan.

On the subject of ecstasy:

Well waking up with a K buzz certainly starts the day
off right. :))

Perhaps the question is whether or not, once one has
opened the natural "doorway" to ecstasy, whether one
needs to keep practicing techniques (meditation, etc.)
in order to seek out certain sensations.

I don't think the experience has to be cyclical. i.e.
techniques to bring about ecstasy, to eliminate stress
which causes a renewed desire to bring about ecstasy.
:) As Ramana Maharshi often said, our natural state
is bliss. If we need to eliminate stress, perhaps we
might find out why there is stress in the first place.
What is untranquil in our lives that cause us to
search for tranquillity? While I don't think reaching
out for ecstasy has to be defended, I don't think it
has to be sought out in the first place either. It is
our natural state of Be-ing. It simply Is.

Love, Hillary
