Gustaf, many bodily processes occur by night. During
adolescence, hormones are released at regular
intervals in the night. This is also the time when
human growth hormone is released. Any body builder can
tell you that nothing happens without sleep. Even to
the extent that they will procure illegal agents such
as GHB to enhance sleep. This is also when the pineal
gland produces melatonin. Not only melatonin, but the
pineal also peaks its production of DMT around 2-3am.
We are still not sure of the role DMT in humans yet it
is profoundly psychedelic.

I have a hunch that we go somewhere down in the deeper
realms of sleep to a place of ultimate bliss that no
one can recount.

Every third night I am waking up with the visuals and
energy fluxes you mention. There are themes, the
pulsing grids of color mostly, but sometimes flickery
cartoon animation or -perhaps rarely the moving
wallpaper at dawn though this is rare and probably
interaction with medication.

My best guess is that this is a kind of spiritual
adolescence. No less empowering or rocky than the
sexual one was many years ago.
