just an other thought:

it believe on a society level the problem is that aggression is seen as
something " negative" and inappropriate whereas passive-aggressive behaviour
seems to be accepted and is " politically correct".
You are not supposed to tell somebody straight into his face that you don't
like him, but to let him know with a smile and some hidden aggression or
boycotting what s/he wants you to do is just fine and everybody does it.
Passive-aggressive behaviour seems to be " legitimate" and aggression is
not, which becomes a problem if somebody decides to turn the process around
and work on his/her passive -aggressive patterns.
