I finally followed up on this ("What the hell are kegal exercises?") and
blundered into http://www.greendome.org/archives/tantra/tantra.html . Can't
speak for all of it, but what the guy said about constipation (along with
some I'm-not-sure-what) helped turn my habitually-stiff back into
intestinal cramps that cleared out the old backlog almost too well.

Something of my own (for my fellow kundalini wannabes) comes with a
WARNING: There is a REAL danger of falling and hurting something so watch
out! Build up to this gradually with serious attention to the state of your
bod. Kriyananda says somewhere that you can do any yoga position with full
lungs (or empty); I don't think he adds that you can also pass out in the
course of this... I tend to pray (an informal but sincere "Help!!!!"
addressed in the right direction) when this leads to a wave of energy
starting to break over me, maintaining a mula lock (keeping one's anus
tight) to help prevent actually passing out. Tense muscles can suddenly
cramp--or relax--if you don't, throwing you who-knows-which-way; I've come
very close to falling from this... "This" being that old, 'safe' camel
position, only with breath held. Some initial deep breaths allow a longer
hold... and habitual tensions eventually loosen, but can feel extremely
weird in the meantime. Since I'm too much the couch potato to push up from
the floor in this, I hang on to a support in front, sometimes a loop of
bathrobe belt if it's a low support. I'm sharing this because I believe
it's a helpful thing, but recommend taking it very cautiously...
