Hullo forrest and welcome!

I wanted to relay that i felt akin to your welcoming post, in that
I've worked for Powell's Bookstore in Portland, OR, and been trained as
a 'used book buyer', and Shorey's Bookstore in Seattle WA, and
also a small bookstore here in Ketchikan (which eventually went under)
:-) Now there is nothing here but a Waldenbooks with all brand spankin'
new books; wretch! (well, not <wretch> entirely i guess; books as
commodities still beats WALMART - and third world country labor abuse
issues, or sellin drugs, or a kick in the arse!)
I also resonated with your ties to 'The Incredible String Band' -
although I guess I was too young to really get in on the band
in their heyday, I really developed an appreciation for Robin Williamson
and his Merry Band, and his music really spoke to me spiritually and
philisophically.
I credit his music for providing me with the courage it took me to
move to alaska all by myself, and when i got here and didn't know a
soul, i wrote to him describing the place, and asking him to come up
here and play; gave him the info for the Art's and Humanities Council .
His wife of the time - Janet - actually returned my letter with a very
nice quip about how Robin was so busy on tour at the moment, but it
sounded like a beautiful place and they'd keep it in mind! I guess
they have divorced since then; alas! I promptly volunteered at the
local FM community radio station and filled the airwaves with their
music, and also exploring Celtic and world music in general.
Then, I have seen him live in the Pacific Northwest thrice - he has
been like a 'touchstone'
for me.
The third time I saw him was with John Renbourn, and I was writing a
review for a newspaper i worked at, and actually walked up to the stage
after his concert and spoke to him personally afterwards. What
sticks out in my mind is when he gifted me with "The Bard's Creed' - as
he put it. He wrote it by hand in Gaelic, and then in English on
my notes - and what it is is 'TRUTH against THE WORLD'...
He is really an old fashioned bard like from the age of antiquities,
as far as I am concerned! here's a couple links to his exploits
recently:

thankyou - oh thankyou for reminding me!!! :-)

forrest: Many "return of Christ" metaphors start making sense if you
understand them to mean a deep, widespread breaking out of the Spirit, a
world-wide Pentecost, leading to a time when "No one shall say to his
neighbor, 'Know the Lord,' for the Earth shall be full of the knowledge
of God."

I think this is happening. And that the kind of unexpected kundalini
outbreaks this list deals with are part of the process. Let's process.

My spirituality stems from too many close brushes with death, and I
have learned to operate from my heart and not my mind. So what resonates
as "truth" to me is what gets me through the day. I am not big on
quoting master teachers or philosophers, as I take what truth I can
glean from their knowledge and disregard the rest.
I was raised in Catholic schools, so have a predetermined devotion
to the Christian bent. However, I have been doing yoga since a young
teen-ager, and experience the "manic-depressive" like cycles and
over-sensitivity of kundalini. Also I more resonate with eastern
philosophies, with a smattering of Hindu beliefs. The only organized
religion which I don't understand is Islam. Wait - that's not true - I
also no comprende the golly-durned Mormons!
The only church I belong to is the 'Science Of Mind', now known as
'LifeScience' -
http://www.lifescienc.org/
which is a church steeped in Christian mysticism but open and actively
exploring ALL great teachers. It has had an alchemical effect on my
soul. It is an offshoot of The Holy Order Of MANS (mysterium, agape,
nu, sophia)- which started in San Francisco in the sixties, feeding and
taking care of the hippies on the streets.
And even THAT , is at a distance!
I *need* to be "open-minded" and not pass judgements , as I am fed
truth from all sources!
I think the closest thing I can describe as an actual "touching God"
experience, is my creativity. When I paint paintings,
write poetry, write songs on the guitar, why - even write some emails, I
feel in tune with my *Higher Power*. Living in all this wilderness is
also a source of awe.
well, i am a lurker and seldom-to-never even post on here - I just
read and process. But I had to wax eloquent about bookstores and small
publishers (i represented the "Drama Department" at Powell's, and as
such was ordering scripts from small publishers in time for upcoming
auditions. The idiot new manager took over and put a stop to ordering
from small publishers, concentrating on "new arrivals" - and ending
with me moving to AK in a huff) , and The Incredible String Band.
Thankyou for the journey!

I believe that we each have our own personal hearts which we must
refer to when establishing our relationship with the Divine. I am not
one for spiritual disciplines and authorities. I am one for
synchronicities and sincerity and truth.
I agree that SPIRIT is now inhabiting the earth, in all dimensions. I
see it as self-defense against the greed and inhumanity of the people
under the influence of mammon.

Can anyone tell me why - the Christos legacy has perservered for 2000
years? What are people's beliefs about that? (not saying i don't have an
opinion)

unconditionally,
valerie

ps (dear Hillary, it is so cool to know your mom was a small publisher
in Sonoma! I was probly in Sacramento about that time!)
