The Symphony
Tonight, I went to the symphony.
What a cacophony
of notes.
Deep-throated, long-winded harangue of musical servitude.
Violas dip, violins prick, piccolos peep, flutes whine, oboes dine
on clarinet soup.
Sour mash, cymbals clash while horns
intrude their raucous voice. In the midst
of it all the conductor dances, his
proboscis guiding,
Searching, jabbing, finding,
Sucking music made flesh, bleeding sweet
harmonies. The soloist stands so straight,
so young, so beautiful, and so talented,
I am envious.
Lord, would that I may live again to have
the opportunity to master such beauty.
Hush, sweet soul, don't fret,
for we are all notes in the symphony of life.
