I know this is really silly. But it's what I do sometimes.

Remember Peewee's Big Adventure?

If someone is hurling evil thoughts at me, and by email I mean nasty little mean thoughts about me or others or themselves, sometimes I just think about what Peewee said:

I'm rubber
You're glue
Whatever bounces off me
Sticks to you.

I don't know if it works, and I don't really want to send little nasties. But it brings me a smile.
And fear has a hard time growing upon a smile.
