I agree that email and other "single-mode" communications media (as opposed
to "multi-mode" media like video chat, personal interview, even telephone
to an extent) do not capture the full spectrum of communication.

However, any communication medium's effectiveness is a product of its
fitness for a particular purpose. The real measure of whether a medium is
effective is simply, "to what extent does the intended message get
through?" If, for example, speech were an effective communications medium
for all messages, would writing be necessary? Would it have been invented
at all? Gutenberg never would have created the first printing press --
what compelled him was the fact that many people did not have access to the
writing that was more accurate, easier to understand, and quicker to
assimilate than the previous methods of story-telling down the generations.

The message you describe (a beautiful view) is not conducive to an email
description because it is not a singular thought or concept. As you say, I
am intellectualizing, but I think you are missing my point.

Certain media of communication are more compatible than others for sending
specific kinds of messages. That's all I'm trying to say. And it's even a
matter of personal preference in many instances, where Hety's preference
for voice communication is an excellent example.

As David pointed out -- do you want to build a bridge or peer into your/my
soul? Different objectives have different requirements.
