- Have you experienced Nirvikalpa samadhi, or Jnana Samadhi, beyond the
Kundalini experiences?

I myself experienced Nirvikalpa several times on a almost daily basis, when
about age 13/14.

Dear Thomas,

Welcome to the K-list! And welcome all other newcomers.

There are, of course, several different stages of samadhi with various
definitions.

Talks with Sri Ramana Maharshi defines nirvikalpa samadhi as "the highest
state of concentration in which the soul loses all sense of being different from
the universal Self but a temporary state from which there is a return to
ego-consciousness." While Swami Rajarshi Muni in Awakening the Life Force defines
Nirbij Samadhi (which he says is synonymous with Nirvikalpa Samadhi) as "Final
form of Samadhi in which the mind forever dissolves, producing a permanent
state of ecstatic, omniscient superconsciousness."

I'm not familiar with Jnana Samadhi.

A few of the samadhi states are:

Samadhi
Savikalpa samadhi
nirvikalpa samadhi
kevala nirvikalpa samadhi
sahaja samadhi
sahaja nirvikalpa samadhi

There is also

turiya
Satori

I'm sure there are many others. Many of the scholars on the list might want
to fill out the list. :))

Those interested might also want to check out the Samadhi poll

>From time to time I've experienced a form of "cosmic consciousness" (losing
sense of self) --but it's hard for me to tell because my states seem to be more
simply a matter of accessing the ecstatic centers of my brain. Since I don't
meditate, they are pretty much out of my control and so it's hard for me to
pinpoint any of these.
