Hello, Kundalites!

My provider has recently upgraded their version of mailman, the
software that runs this list, and as a result it now does some things we
have wanted it to do, all along.

It now has an automatic filter which will reject all posts that are not
plain text.. which includes html messages, and messages using styled text
and coloured text.

Non plain text messages have been a problem for the list for some time
now, as they mess up the digest and the archives, and cannot be opened by
some simpler mail programs... but getting some members to abide by the
plain text only guideline has been troublesome. Funny, how often it seems
new members either do not read the guidelines, or perhaps do not understand
them...

It will also automatically reject any messages containing attachments,
and it does reject messages with more than three recipients... so when
using reply to all, remember to delete the extra addresses before posting.

If you get a message that your post has been rejected, it is not
personal... please adjust your email software settings, and re-send the
message as plain text.

Additionally, we have been getting many members being unsubscribed
automatically by the system, when their mail starts bouncing. Possibly this
is because people are going on vacation without setting their membership to
"no-mail" and their mailbox overflows.

Previously, the bounced posts were bouncing back to all five
moderators, with multiple messages coming to me, as I have several
addresses listed for administration.

I have altered the settings so that moderators no longer get bounced
messages, and also made the settings more generous, allowing more bounced
posts before a members address is disabled or unsubscribed.

If you find you have been unsubscribed and did not request it,
probably it was because your mail was bouncing. Feel free to resubscribe
yourself when your problem has been corrected, or resubscribe yourself
under a more reliable address.

Some people like to use a hotmail or yahoo account for the list,
because they fear spam... but our spam filters are excellent, and the
member list is protected, so have no fear on that account.

Remember, you have the option to set your membership to no-mail, and
read the list mail at the archives page. Please do this anyway, if you are
going on vacation.

The address to adjust your subscription, unsubscribe yourself, go to
no-mail, switch to digest, and read the archives, is on the bottom of every
list post. Please do not ask the moderators to do this for you.

    Thank you for your attention.
