In the Indian Yoga and philosophical traditions there are many deep
discussions about Truth (Satya) and non-truth (Asatya). One of the
interesting results is that there are several conditions or situations
where a "literal falsehood" is actually regarded as Truth.

For example, if you make a statement to someone, where your own ego is
not boosted and the other person is comforted in some way, then that is
regarded as Truth. Another general example is when you make a statement
and there is no benefit to you in any form, but the other person
benefits in a good way, then that also is regarded as Truth.

In other examples, there are situations discussed that demonstrate that
is it possible to tell the "literal truth" and yet the overall result is
seen as bad or negative. You probably know many practical examples
yourselves from politics, law, commerce, religion, sports, business,
etc. The principle is more about the "spirit of truth" rather than the
"letter of truth". Hence it is important to approach Truth from a whole
(or holistic) perspective. The literal or factual truth is not
necessarily the full picture, there are other factors that have to be
taken into consideration.

There are many other examples, but this is only a brief and partial
summary of these types of discussions. There are also safety directives
that are incorporated which state that the various allowed conditions or
situations should not be abused in any way (even though this is
essentially covered by the second example above).

A classical Mantra states "Satyam Shivam Sundaram" which translates to
"[GOD is] Truth Goodness Beauty".
