Your experiences are fascinating.

It would seem that the protective dragon allowed you to weather these visions
without fear. :)) Perhaps that was the intent--to warn you that what was to
come was potentially terrifying, but that you would be allowed the presence of
mind not to succumb to fear.

  It's interesting that many people (including the Buddha, of course) while
going through the awakening process are "tested" by "demons" of various sorts.
A question that comes to my mind is--what would have happened had you
accepted these visions with open arms rather than, in a sense, rejecting them. I
think you are right, that they represent our fears which we have to overcome.
In any case, you seem to have succeeded in transcending them. :))

The symbols you experienced are especially fascinating! I had a similar
experience regarding symbols some 2 years into my awaking. From my journal:

7/12/98 Last night woke with a distant statement--something like "everyone
within a radius of 1500 miles will be affected when a musical note is played."
I heard a tone of some sort and experienced a terrific explosion and my brain
was full of symbols of various sorts. Active all night. Lots of back bends
pressing particularly on the lower back.

I look forward to the "next installment"! :))

I wonder how many of us have experienced symbols--and what you all think they
symbolize!
