As Jason said that's hard to answer. At the end it's up to you
to judge whether a certain meditation/practice helps on. Maybe I
did the mistake to follow a general Yoga-Pattern for a long time.
Although it helped and teached me a lot it didn't really fit
to my situation, the pressure in my head was even getting worse
without being released. Sometimes it's better to listen to your
inner voice what to do.

On the one hand there are a lot of common phenomenas in K-awakeing.
On the other hand it is a personal process which needs personal
treatment. Maybe sometimes it's better to stop practicing at all
because the energy is getting too high. I have heard even of cases
where praying was not helpful because it additionally increased
the energy. All that depends on ones current situation.

As a summary of my past years I may suggest something like this:

1) It's good to have a "physical" master/teacher. When there is
somebody which appeals to you in the right way, which gives
you the feeling of pushing you in the right direction than
that's a priceless help. But stay critical in a constructive way.
Every real master will even demand from you to be critical and
no "blind" follower. And be humble and respectful. Often it's
not up to us to judge. When you are honest with yourself you will
know if you are following the right path. And don't forget the
wonderful citation of a Zen-Master I read on this list recently:
"there are many paths to the top of the mountain".

2) Embed necessary changes due to your way of life. Usually
the "master within you" is patient. You may retard important
steps over and over again. But that just makes it more and more
difficult to stand it. What exacly such a step is differs.
It can be alcohol consumption. It can be just the acceptance
of your development in general. That you are somewhat "different"
than maybe your friends are. Not better. Not the saver of the world.
Just different. And this difference demands an aligned way of
life. That can be the hardest point when you are young, I have
expierienced what happens when you begin to change your behaviour.
Just simple things like stopping being totally drunk on weekends may
cause great difficulties. They wont say it, but you feel it. And
that can make you feel that you are about to loose a lot of
your "old life". And you will. But maybe less than you expect now.
And what you get for that is priceless!

Most important, start trusting in the process. As I said it has
intelligence. You will be guided to the right points if you trust
in it. I remember that time when I felt like dying (and something
within me has died, that's simply the point). I sat in my car driving to
a neurologist to have my brain scanned (it was all right of course, still
have that pictures at home which now just make me smile...). I was so
desparate that I spoke out loudly "God, I don't believe in you, but if
you exist, than for heaven's sake help me!". And he did. I only needed
to ask. That's it. And on this list you have much more experienced and
wiser persons than I am which can give you advice and support in every
situation, however "wicked" it may be! Ofcourse I'll do my best too ;-)
And you will probably later on help others to go though this. That's
why this list is so helpful - everybody can get and give advice.

That definitely applies to you too, I am in the Netherlands doing my
PhD. If I understood you right you are still in the US, so unfortunately
a bit far for a personal meeting. But lets keep contact, a lot of stuff
to talk about!

L&L,
Lars
