Subject: Re: [K-list] psychosis and kundalini
From: JR

On 2003/06/02 20:40, JR posted thus to the K-list:

Further: Dr.Lee Sannella --The Kundalini Experience and Psychosis or Transcendance.
To add to gurus: Lee Sannella told me of spending months with Muktananda untill Muktananda told him "I can do nothing for you, you have to do it yourself." Others who I know who visited Muktananda were transformed.
There are some who "bootstrap" themselves ; that do not find a guru that they connect to, Lee being one.
Who taught the first guru? :-} love jr

>I'm not sure what you are saying here. It's pretty well documented that K can cause temporary psychosis (well, what psychiatrists call psychosis! ;) ). As Dennis Gersten, M.D. wrote in his book Are you getting Enlightened or Losing your Mind? "On paper, schizophrenia and mystical experiences come very close to looking the same" p. 131 Some of his distinctions seem a little fuzzy to me, however.

>As Paul indicated, it seems to be a temporary condition in the case of K-psychosis. It is often said that people who have spent time in mental hospitals seem to be able to distinguish those who are K active from those who are not. :))

>"Kundalini, a sudden release of intense energy throughout the body, may look like mental illness--like mania, depression, or anxiety. It may look like physical illness...But kundalini is none of these. It is a prolonged altered state of consciousness, and the various physical symptoms it produces demonstrate its powerful body-mind-spirt connection. " p. 110 Dennis Gersten MD Are you getting Enlightened or Losing your Mind?
