I intuit as below regarding your dream

> my brother and i ouside of a house by a lake
Your brother and you are outside narrow family relationships
You both are spiritually inclined, ready to swim in the lake of spirituality
You both have a keen sense of discrimination and discernment

> my mom was in a crawlspace with a small door
> there were some "bad" men around seemingly guarding something.
Your mom is caught up and involved in 'selfish' chakra,
the 5th chakra of the nether region, experienced around the ankles.
She is looking hard for a thing, jealously guarded by lowly human beings

> the snake skin stretched around him and could see his arms and legs as he
was walking around and flailing.
The man is one in whom the serpent is awakened fully
The release from the Sense-mind has occurred fully in him
He has seen the set up into which your mom has got into
He sees the inside and outside of the trouble towards which your mom is
heading inadvertently
He is a being of the lake, by the side of which you and your brother are

> there was also a fire in the middle of the yard with a spit on it.
The fire has been lit by him.
He is heating up the spit so as to
wilfully inflict a wound on your mom
Thus, he will fructify the bad karma of your mom in a mild way
And thus, save your mom from getting into future karmic disaster
You could later meet him as your spiritual guide in a human form
