Here is a preface, sort of:

Sanskrit seems to be , so to speak, fond of long vowels.
That can sometimes be a bit misleading in sloppy
transliteration. For instance, in the Giitaa, KRSNa
sez to Arjuna (II 48):

yogasthaH kuru karmaaNi

which means something like:

Established in yoga (union) perform action(s).

Quite often one can see the last word transliterated
without the long vowel: karmani. That would make
the phrase nonsensical, because "karmaNi", is
a locative (saptamii) singular of the word "karma"
(in dictionaries in the form "karman"). The locative
case would require a translation like "in action".
The correct form "karmaaNi" is accusative plural
which is the case of object in Sanskrit.

Now, just for fun, my understanding of
how to translate the names of the first three cakras (chakras),
with the help of Cologne Digital Sanskrit Dictionary:

muulaadhaara (muula + aadhaara):

'relating(?) or belonging(?) to the root'

svaadhiSThaana (sva-adhi-SThaana):

'one´s own place'

maNipuura:

'(belonging to?) the city of jewels'
