Suffering = pain x resistance.

No resistance no suffering.

True. However somethings are a whole lot harder to open up to without resistance than others. On the sacred Kundalini list there is a discussion about free will and wether we have it or not.

It seems to me that Karma is really the answer. There is free will but there are inevitable consequences to any action. Yes one could possibly relax into the pain and offer little resistance. But how do you get to that level of mindfulness? What can bring you there? Your own effort? Grace? Both I guess. Why do some people have pain in the first place when others seem to have it pretty easy? And then sometimes the pain we go through is our doorway to the infinte. To quote Hemingway: "The world breaks us but when we heal we are stronger in the broken places."

Enligtenment is the end of suffering because it is the end of resistance to what is.

I wish I were there. The only thing I can do is keep cleaning the house and maybe the guest will come and maybe not. Why do some people have enligtenment thrust upon them with seemlingly little effort and other meditate their whole lives and still seem so confused? I guess Karma. What else is there to do but work on the relative level and continue sweeping away purifying karma. And sometimes a small glimps of the absolute peeks through and then one is inspired to renew their efforts.
