I never thought I'd see Melissa Kaplan's web site show up on the k-list. LOL

I take care of an iguana (she's mine, but you never really "own" them) and
the parietal eye is one of the most fascinating physical attributes. I used
to travel quite extensively by car, and for a while she freaked out at
overpasses as the text described. By the third trip, she was anticipating
the overpasses and not even flinching. This eye is also what makes them
difficult to take outside. They freak out over planes passing over, birds or
kites, etc. It is an automatic reflex built in to protect them from birds
(their main natural predator). I wonder if humans have something similar
that makes them act irrationally.

They are highly intelligent creatures and communicate rather clearly with
their caretakers through body language (and hissing if you cross them.).
Mine won't sleep without a blanket over her to cover her parietal eye. :) In
Mexico, the wild iguanas will approach pale-skinned tourists to beg for
food, but run from the darker-skinned locals who would have them for dinner.
I would love to see this first hand.maybe take a chance at getting a finger
chewed up in exchange to see and feel a wild one.
