Yes indeed... it has to be seen, to be believed!

"Plain text digest", as it turns out, does not mean html gets stripped.
It means html attachments and styled text posts are converted to text
instead of attachments, so those posts show up twice, once as text
sometimes with = or =20 at the end of every line, plus a second version
with the html code showing.

Worse, those responding end up posting twice too, unless they convert
the original post to plain. One of Hillary's responses to Dean showed up
doubled in a digest, and I have never known her to use html.

Even this post of yours that I am responding to, with it's tiny snippet
of quoted html, caused the rest of the digest to lose all its line breaks.
The two posts following turned into one large block of unreadable text,
date, addresses and all.

I was reminding people, last night. Forwarding their post so they can
see how it appears... most politely thanked me, but I would prefer not to
have to. Gets me cranky. Nor should I need to, really. 'Plain text only'
has been a list guideline since 1996. Since before Outlook was invented...

Styled text makes a duplicate html post, too. Messy. People responding
to a digest post and quoting part of it, have to spend time cleaning up the
quote.

The posts show up in the automatic archives the same way. I am going to
have to upgrade and pay for more space sooner than I had expected to, at
this rate. Especially if we want to keep expanding the website, with more
polls, threads etc. The space is shared with my fire-serpent.org domain,
and I had to delete 9k of that site to make room for the k-gateway.

I don't mind paying for space when the list is simply busy, the success
of the list and website is worth it... but the wasted storage of double
posts and attachments is silly... and I cannot edit the automatic archives.

Yup. Four times, if they do not edit the outgoing addresses, and
"reply to all" puts the list address CC: and To:

At least, the digest is no longer showing up split into many attached
files... so there is an improvement. The automatic web archiving and
no-mail option are improvements, too... but the one improvement I most
wanted, is a no-go. :(

>And when people don't snip the email size is truly horrendous and

Yup. All the extra html also means only a few posts per digest,
(average 5) and many digests per day. I currently have the digest max size
set to 50k. I could set it to be longer, but some free mail systems
truncate long posts and I don't know what the average max length for those
is. About 1/4 of the subscribers are on the digest... so, the 5 members
posting using html inconvenience a lot of people.

Members, please visit the archives to see how your posts appear in the
digest. I even discovered that with wordwrap off, my posts were wider than
the browser window. (Yours too, Felix)

You will need the password you received in your list welcome message to
access the current archives. Passwords can be changed to something easier
to remember, at the admin page. Address for that is in the welcome message
too.
Yeah, take a moment and look it up... :)

Thanks for posting about this, Susan. I am so tired of reminding people
to respect the guidelines, you have no idea. Previously, some folks said
they would volunteer to send private reminders, so I let it go for a few
days, but list traffic made it appear that nobody was helping so it fell to
me to do it.
