After agreeing with others in the guidelines poll about sticking to the
topic, I wondered . o O ( how do you enforce this guideline? ). In
yahoogroups, an offensive or off-topic post can be deleted, and repeated or
severe transgressions by a particular individual can result in moderated
status or an outright ban. While the latter options are still open in the
new list, it isn't possible to automatically screen undesirable posts from
list members currently in good standing. Once the post is sent and received
by the k-list bot, it gets broadcast to everyone -- damage already done.

Thus the only way to obviate unwanted posts is manual screening by a
moderator. With the current volume of messages, I can't believe this is a
viable option -- nor is a screening bot. All I'd have to do to bypass the
bot is create a post like: "Kundalini is neat. Greorge Bush is a dope and
the war in Iraq... blah blah blah off-topic...".

Mystress says she's already overloaded with K-list stuff, so I'm wondering
how we're going to enforce these guidelines -- more moderators -- bans --
moderated status -- screening -- peer pressure?
