Yeah, "It is only wafer thin" and then the bloated fat K-list explodes it guts all over cyberspace.

It is not about you Shelle. It was actually the responses to you, and the gif attachment that set me off... and it was some time coming.

Your post, and the four people who responded to it, and then the huge "downloading the internet" gif on top of David's impeach George post and someone else who is posting me privately trying to persuade me to allow her anti-war stories, plus a lot of other stuff on top of that... even the pig slayer, who has been on the list for about 10 minutes can see the list has gone overboard.

Too many straws, weak camel. I snapped. Good thing too. My suggestion about bending the rules a bit seems to have been interpreted by some people as permission to disregard them and stomp them flat.

I realized it was time to poll about the guidelines, again. My reaction is not intended as punitive toward you. Rather it is that list management is a lot harder than it looks. Honestly, when the old list got deleted I contemplated whether it was Goddess setting me free!! Decided it wasn't, got back in the harness and set up the new list.

Nobody knows how much work that was... huge, and ongoing. Hillary has a clue... and she is amazed.

I thought that once I had the new list set up and the website updated, that I could relax and just enjoy the list. Instead I'm being the styled text police and the snipping police and the off topic police. I have done exactly one pro session this month, my personal and professional mail is piling up. I hardly even have time to respond to posts that are directed towards me. I'm getting private mail complaining about digest attachments, people sending me cranky complaints then unsubscribing, people taking my reminders personally and complaining that I'm not psychic enough to know they are having a bad hair day, idiots making snide jests about what they think is valid, and heaps of lame excuses for not respecting the guidelines, like the one you gave me.

   I'm fed up with it.

I was needing some support and feedback from the list, about what it wants. I'm in service to the will of the list, but very tired of always being the enforcer, no point to enforcing guidelines that are not wanted. If enough people are breaking them, then it is time to ask what everyone really wants.

I do own other lists that have no guidelines at all... Stress free!! ... but they have <20 members, and a few posts a month, not 140 members and 840 posts since Jan 9.

840 posts!! In 29 days!! aaaaaaahh!!! I have abundant bandwidth and I'm self employed, the list has been a full time job for me and I have no idea how members with limited hotmail accounts and full time jobs, can cope at all... especially those that were on "web only" before.

The best thing for me about the poll results so far, aside from validating the current guidelines, is that other members are willing to assist with the job of reminding people to respect the guidelines. That is really wonderful. Yes please and thank you!!

I will be getting cpanel and switching to a list format that strips mime attachments automatically. That will be more work for me, nobody else can do it... and then I'm taking a vacation.

>Actually, what I said was: "Sorry. I thought I remembered you saying we might bend the rules a bit on the new list." I do remember you saying something to that effect, and I thought there was room to share a strangely funny little poem.
>Clearly, I hugely misunderstood you, judging by the strength of your reaction. I don't remember ever breaking this rule before, in the couple of years I've been participating in your list and I am a bit bewildered by the punitive and hostile response. Not sure I deserve it. In fact, I know I don't.
