Hi Lobster,

A lot of people who were persecuted by the Church in Europe
found their way to the colonies. Including those of the
Gnostic and Alchemical persuasion. Naturally, they did not
practice the faith of those that persecuted them.

In the Book of Changes there is a Hexagram entitled
Enthusiam. In the Wilhelm/Baynes translation it is written
that he who understands the secrets of enthusiasm can rule
the world as if it were spinning in the palm of his hand.

Great orators seem to be able to unite masses of people to
accomplish whatever purpose they espouse. One of the more
effective ways of public speaking is to use repetition in
creative ways, such that all the metaphors and allegories,
all the jokes and relevent stories end with the same point
so that as the point is driven home everything makes sense
to the listeners. What the point is exactly doesn't seem to
matter.

The point could be to stir up a group of people to storm a
jail in the Old West, and string up the accused killer
inside the jail to make sure he doesn't get away with the
supposed crime through the legal system. Mob violence.

The point could be to stir a nation of people to rebel
against their oppressors, and then take over the policies of
the government, then conquer their neighbors and possibly
the entire world to make sure they are not oppressed again.
There seem to exist numerous examples of this with more well
known dictators. Hitler was a great orator. Abraham Lincoln
was a great orator. Winston Churchill was a great orator. It
might seem apparent that they all held the secret of
enthusiasm.

In religion there are the great revivalists. These speakers
seem to be able to arouse great emotion in their audience
and guide that enthusiam to the point of emotional
conversion. My experiences tell me that the conversion is
itself the point.

On the other hand, there is conversion by what is called
brain-washing. By whatever means conversion is wrought, the
results are the same. Whether to storm the gates of the
Bastille, or to renounce one's former allegiances to God and
Country, Paganism, or Sex, Drugs, and Rock & Roll.

At the point where the mechanics of conversion have
overridden the emotional stability of a person or of a
people, it doesn't matter whether you hand them the Bible,
the Koran, or Mao's Little Red Book. It depends on what you
want them to convert to... before their enthusiam wanes, and
they return to the old way.

To study conversion just for itself is an interesting thing
to do. When the events associated with the approach of
conversion are understood, it might be difficult to
distinguish the care-actor-istics of religious or political
conversion... and those associated with kundalini.
