Dear Ken

I only retain e-mails to which I have not responded
Since I responded to your previous e-mail, I had deleted the same
Hence, I do not have the same with me
Consequently, I am unable to post the same to the list

> All I got was a brief 1, 2, 3, 4 with vague mystical-sounding phrases,
> but lacking any coherent structure or meaning.
These are mystical phrases, which appear to the ordinary reason, to be
lacking coherent structure or meaning
To the pure reason, the mystical phrases will reveal their meaning from
within

> >Intense pain from adverse crumbling circumstances registers in our
> >awareness
> >Then, it works on from within, and later, understanding wells up
> >automatically from within

> > > This clarifies your meaning even more, limiting the discussion to
emotional pain,
> > > but I still don't see the whole picture.
> > > We learn from painful experience, and hopefully modify our behavior to
avoid similar experiences in the future.
This is true. This is the perception of the ordinary reason to encountering
external circumstances

>But where does this mystical stuff about bullets, force of God, curved
landscapes, et al. fit in?
The adverse crumbling circumstances also alter the structure of our
consciousness.
For example, thinking may shift from the head to the region above the head
outside the body.
And, the perception of one's being may change from one's body to the
awareness surrounding the body, etc.

> E-mail is effective, but it lacks the thread navigating capabilities of a
discussion board.
I do not know anything about a discussion board

> I don't see how this applies to e-mail, which is effective regardless of
whether or not one feels the force.
The force of the truths conveyed through mystical phrases are embodied in
the words typed out in an e-mail.
By keeping oneself open, receiving and allowing the same to sink,
the force enters the awareness and starts revealing its truths inside one's
awareness.

> Pure reason has to do with the logical manipulation of abstract objects.
> I don't see the connection between reason and the perception of sense
objects.
Pure reason directly perceives the contents of sense-objects
It does not rely on the data supplied by the senses for perceiving the
sense-objects
It is a mode of functioning of the spiritual mind

> Spiritual matters come from direct experience and transcend reason.
> I'm usually at a loss to rationally explain spirit,
> yet I feel that reason and spirit must coexist harmoniously within a
person.
Yes, through pure reason one establishes the required connection
between the spiritual direct experience and ordinary reason
It is only where the intellect is developed as in educated people,
the presence of reason becomes a compelling necessity
But, one can proceed directly from instinct to spirituality without reason

Thanks and kind regards
RK Shankar
