Yesterday I found a splinter in my finger and it got me to thinking about
pain. I find that I've become less and less sensitive to it, and I notice
these little injuries after the fact, without the slightest idea or memory
of how they occured. Since my pain threshold is getting higher, I don't
always notice when I injure myself, and this concerns me a bit.

Pain is simply an alert mechanism, a way of forcing one to pay attention to
injury. I guess I don't understand the reason for all this tangential stuff
about curved landscapes, force of God, bullets, and energy fields. It's
tough to follow the threads using just e-mail; maybe I missed something
here.
