Hi, d.
I don't actually have personal experience with tongue mods, but I
did meet someone, long ago, who had some expertise in this area. I was
in Rishikesh, walking along the river with some friends, when a sudden
torrential downpour caused us to seek shelter on the covered porch of a
small cottage. We spent an hour or two watching thunderbolts crash into
the forest, until finally, just as the storm was lifting, a man and a
boy walked up the path to the cottage.
"Hello, my dears", said the tattered, older gentleman, "I've been
expecting you".
We, of course, hadn't been expecting him. He was the resident guru,
and he invited us in for tea. He showed us the curious amulet he wore, a
round, silver ball of metal tied into a leather strap which hung around
his neck.
"Solid mercury", he proclaimed, holding it aloft, "The semen of Shiva",
and with that, he popped it into his mouth, and went into a sort of
meditative trance. After a while he opened his eyes, took the ball out
of his mouth, and invited us to inspect his tongue. He had a large,
gaping, one inch hole in the center of his tongue. Created by the sacred
metal, he told us. And he alone, in all the world knew the secret of the
sacred metal. He invited us to become his students and learn the secrets
of the universe, including the key to proper alternate nostril
breathing. We, being on the hippie trail rather than the spiritual path,
declined his offer, thanked him for his demonstration, and went off in
search of more hash to smoke. Later, the next day, my friend returned to
visit the guru alone. He was given a ball of metal to place on his
tongue, and the guru placed his hand on my friend's forehead. My friend
described the effect as a lightning bolt up his spine which exploded out
the top of his head, and caused him to levitate briefly. He had his eyes
closed at the time, but he was certain he had levitated. He was a bit
freaked out, but continues to marvel about his experience to this day,
nearly twenty five years later. He regrets that he didn't buy the metal
for 1,000 rupees(about a hundred dollars at the time), as we were
travelling on a shoestring budget. I'm currently thinking of returning
to india and will probably track the guru down if he's still there. I
don't remember his name, but the experience has stayed with me all these
years. We had never heard of shaktipat at the time, and the guy struck
us as rather bizzarre, although almost comically freindly. I realize
this is all probably useless to you but as usual, well, It's just there,
beyond my control. To find the guy, you walk through the town of
Rishikesh, to where a footpath leads down the hill through a lot of tea
stalls, makes a U-turn left towards the river and then a sharp right
turn to run straight through the forest along the river. The guru's
cottage is just off the main path at that right hand turn. Best of luck
with your quest. Michael
