Descartes hypothesized that it was the "seat of the soul", and
this "myth" persists even today. As to this idea of certain glands
being associated with specific chakras... I dunno. I'm skeptical.

I lean more toward theories like those proposed by John Eccles, that
the soul (actually the dualistic mind) influences the probability of
which neurons will fire in the neo-cortex via a connection at the
quantum level. But I try not to mix spirit and science in general.
It always seems to lead to confusion, false conclusions, or someone
getting pissed-off. So, I usually deal with spirit in its domain
(the inner world) and science in its (the outer world)... Well,
I did say usually, didn't I ;)
