This merely indicates that the teachers were not really "suitable" since,
with respect to the results obtained, their presence was worse than their
absence. It does not necessarily mean that one should automatically
generalise this and hence reject all teachers. The problem seems to be
that there are many, many people who need guidance and there are not enough
"suitable" guides. Any strict or rigid teacher is probably not a
"suitable" teacher since the Kundalini process is extremely individualistic
and therefore intelligent flexibility and understanding is required of the
teacher.

Regarding your book quote, and my own experiences, I agree that trying to
(at worst) force or (at best) encourage the Kundalini process, which is a
Natural process, can have counter results. Take an example from other
parts of Nature such as growing fruit/vegetables/grains. If you force
these processes the result is invariably inferior to the result of natural
growth. Try to force a flower to grow in 3 days, when it would naturally
take 3 weeks, and see what happens. It appears that many people are too
impatient to get quick results. Kundalini development can take decades (or
lifetimes), it cannot be forced in a few weeks or months. In particular,
having a failure does not always justify criticism of the teacher or the
method. For the few people where the development appears to be natural and
flowing, the major effort may have been done in previous lives.

On a more general note, I have observed during my life that the Western and
Eastern attitudes to teachers of ANY subject is radically different. These
general attitudes clearly have filtered into the Kundalini arena.

Jack.
