Dear Jack,

Well, I have misgivings about several parts of your interesting post! :))

I think that once K is activated spontaneously, that subsequently taking
strict direction from anything other than inner guidance can be extremely
counter productive. Interestingly, I just recently read the book *Unmasking
the Rose, A Record of a Kundalini Initiaion* by Dorothy Walters, in which she
states:

" Sometimes the "snake" bit its channel only part way upward, and only
feeble energies were roused in the head. The experience became strain
without satisfaction. ... Therefore I sought a new technique (Transcendental
Meditation), and in doing so, I stepped off my true, inner directed path. ...
soon both my body and my subconscious mind began to rebel, to warn of my
serious blunder in submitting to an inappropriate external authority,... it
was as if a lid had been placed on a vessel whose contents were boiling."

Others on this list have had similar experiences after subjecting themselves
to stringent rules and practices of some teachers.

I think using "scare tactics" to illustrate your view that a teacher is
necessary is not very helpful. Such extreme results are, I suspect,
incredibly rare and may be partly myth. Granted problems arise when K is
activated, but problems can arise with or without a teacher!> Or in

Well, this covers everything, doesn't it! If the teacher can't solve the
problem, it was already too out of control, but if the progress is easy then
it's due to the teacher! :)) > At present, I have medium-level Kundalini symptoms. Having excellent

Well, I do think practices that strengthen the body/mind are helpful, but
there is no reason your experience couldn't have been equally free of
discomfort without a teacher. We are all different, however. Most people
come to this list apprehensive about what is happening to them. Simply being
assured that there are others who share their experiences is enough to make
the experience a positive rather than frightening one.
