That is a metaphor. Those are not imaginary, they are... well they are
metaphors. (Sorry just checking my mail before going to bed and I'm not at
100%, not really at 60% so didn't get another word to use there. But it
should be clear I think.)

>The Kundalini pierces through the six chakras of Shakti or plexuses,
>which are not physical. ..."

If I said anything to make you believe I only think physical things are real
I am sorry. Kundalini is not physical but it is very real. The soul is not
physical but is very real. Love is not physical (though I have no objections
to its physical expression) but emotional and it is real.

>But whether the Chakras, Ida, Pingala, Shushumna, etc. really exist
>physically is an interesting question. Many of us certainly feel them!
>But If one feels them only as energy, than the barriers between them become
>non existent.

No the "barriers" do not become non-existent, you just don't feel them.
Until you read this sentence did you feel your right kidney? I'm guessing
no. But you don't seriously believe it ceased to exist do you? Even when one
is squirming, sitting cross legged, and your eye balls are turning yellow
because we have to pee and you are stuck waiting for a long-winded boss to
end the meeting from hell we don't feel the kidney usually, we feel the
bladder, maybe the part of the body where the urine will leave the body, but
not the kidney. Unless we get hit there or have kidney stones (God forbid)
we pretty much never feel it. But for most people it is there and working
away and does not cease to exist until they do.

>I don't see why you have such a problem with the concept.

I don't see why you have such a concept so I guess we are even. Feelings are
feelings, they aren't truth, they aren't lies, they are information, not
complete information, but useful information. For information to be
productively used it must be analyzed within a reasonable paradigm. Just
having a feeling means you aren't dead. Beyond that you need to analyze it
carefully to get a better idea of what is happening.

>Well, I only have one of his books. In this one he generally makes a
>distinction, although in one place he states, "Kundalini consists of
>Prana Shakti." I trust Kurt Keutzer not to misquote, however.

Don't know K.K. so I have no opinion one way or the other. I just want to
see for myself.

It is difficult to understand much of the teachings from reading them for a
several reasons. The most serious one is, with all respect to the teachers
and swamis, English is almost never their first language, so their command
is always subject to question. Not to mention Indian English is neither
American nor British English. I learned that from marriage ads (one of the
most interesting parts of the paper to someone not used to the practice). It
was advertising a "homely Brahman girl" was looking for a husband. It meant
she wanted to be a housewife and not work outside the home. I thought it was
more truth in advertising than was prudent. Also English words with a Hindi
sentence structure can be a bear to get through and understand clearly.

English is my teacher's 4th language, first Tamal, then Hindi, then
Sanskrit, and then English. Without the opportunity to probe, question, get
clarification, etc. much that I have learned from would have never have
gotten through.

If I read it in a book I only accept what I read if I have studied that
author before and know his command of English and his level of knowledge.
Otherwise I don't buy what I've read as being what the original text
intended until I've found one or two confirming authors. So I'm putting your
author on no rougher a standard than I use for myself.

>But if you really want to continue the debate, I'd prefer to take it
>off-list! :))

I just hit "reply all" and answer. Fine by me. If you don't post it I won't
be replying there (I think that would be against the rules if I did but
regardelss I think it would be tacky to do that so I wouldn't do it.)

Namaste,

Joe
