Hi

Have you all tried alternative forms of therapy, such as acupuncture, for
the chronic conditions? I've been experiencing chronic CFS-like symptoms
for the past 8 months (it's been getting better but still not perfect). I
went to see an acupuncturist for the first time yesterday, and after
chatting with me for a few minutes and looking at me, he asked if I had ever
experienced any trauma in my life. The tears started to flow, as yes, I was
sexually abused as a child and had a very controlling and emotionally
out-of-control mother. He felt my pulses and said that I was exhausted. My
kidney chi was low, and the kidneys are the 'mother' of all the other vital
organs in the Chinese system. If these are out of kilter, the whole system
will be out of kilter.

The kidneys relate to fear, and especially to fear of death. I remember
feeling like my mother's anger would kill me when it came flying at me. I
also remember lying in bed at night, praying to God not to take my mother
and father. And, it gets even more interesting, as it finally clicked
during a supervision session last night why I keep attracting clients for
psychotherapy who are in their sixties, mourning the death of a parent,
experiencing failing health and facing the existential issues of their own
mortality. It's my own fear of death that I've been living with since
conception (I was unexpected and unwanted and my mother, being very young,
contemplated aborting me), and fear of being in the world because at any
moment I could die. My supervisor said, "People choose to opt out of life
to opt out of death." It explains the years that I spent being completely
disconnected from myself and perpetuating this state with drugs, alcohol,
random sex, etc.

Anyway, as you can probably see, yesterday was a pretty profound day of
realisation and enlightenment for me, and it all started with an "innocent"
trip to the acupuncturist to help me boost my energy and clear up my skin.

If you do decide to seek help from an acupuncturist, ask them if they have
learned the Five Elements method. This is the old version which
incorporates spiritual wisdom from the Tao. During the Cultural Revolution
this side of the practice was eradicated in China (except for the few
working in secret). A practitioner working from the Five Elements model
will treat the 'whole' person, not just the body.

Best wishes
Lori
