Why do I cry
when the news blurts out
another one of our children
has been abducted?

Why do I count
dollars as if they
represented something real?

How I answer depends
on what witnesses
I decide to call
to the stand.

At this moment
if I were to call
the witness of logic
it would be like
pushing a heavy stone
up a hill.

So I will decline that
particular 'expert'
and call the
poet.

Why do dancers dance...?

or flowers bloom...?

or clouds appear as
unholy seekers
asleep in a loveless world
dreaming love?
