On 2002/08/18 00:38, s.cohen posted thus to the K-list: I am a painter (or rather....I used to be, these days I am not sure what
I am) and I like colors. All colors. I am also writing an academic paper
about color these days and am doing a lot of research. There are many
reasons we prefer colors, and fashion is one of them. I do not like
yellow mustard. Years ago it became very fashionable, and after a few
months I really enjoyed my mustard sweater.

When you talk about the colors you like try to ignore your wardrobe and
your house decoration. we chose these colors for practical reasons. My
closet is very neutral, but I use very bright colors when painting. I
can't afford a multi colored wardrobe, so I stick mainly with the safe
ones. I love bright colors, but I could not live inside them. So my
walls are white. Some days I wish to paint each wall in a different
color, but I know, what I choose today will not work tomorrow. Back to
white. A painter friend once told me that he wished for color walls,
thought about it for a few months, and finally, decided to paint the
ceiling of the hall bright yellow, which he said is the color of his
soul. I still do not know what is the color of my soul.
BTW, research shows that yellow is a color not liked in the west, but
liked in the east. Same research shows that those with art/design
education/experience in the west may learn to like yellow.

I had a student, completely deaf. One day I wore a very bright yellow
jacket to class. (I know I said my closet is neutral, but this was a
summer jacket on sale....). He came up to me and asked me to take the
jacket off, it hurts him to much. There was real pain in his eyes. If
color can heal, I guess it can hurt.

I once tried asking, I'll try again, can anyone point me to information
on the web about color and chakras? relating the chakras to the colors
of the spectrum is fairly new, just the last 100 years or so, I'm
looking for the traditional colors.
