Subject: [K-list] OM, expanding consciousness or expanding receptivity?
From: mundaneyogi

On 2002/08/10 17:11, mundaneyogi posted thus to the K-list: As I mentioned in a previous post, I've been re-reading Lama
Govinda's "Foundations of Tibetan Mysticism". At the end
of the first section I was struck by his description of the meaning
of the OM sound:

"It is not an expression of self-expansion, but rather of
universal acceptance, devotion, and receptivity comparable to
that of a flower, that opens its petals to the light and to all who
partake of its sweetness".

When I meditate, I do my Pranayama then listen to the OM sound. I
know things are going well if the sound gets louder, as that is
usually accompanied by a feeling of bliss and other well-known K.
features. I've always thought of this as a form of expanding
consciousness, but perhaps it's more accurate to call it an
expanding receptivity, an opening (centered in the heart) to what is
already there.

Just wanted to share.

Love and Peace,

Ken
