Thats an interesting but very large "what if".
It would be no more difficult to turn that question around and say...
"what if... WHAT IF... coming to terms with our spiritual selves and moving
on past this plane of existance that we are clinging to is the next step in
evolution, and those who blindly drone around with their physical lives are
missing the big picture? What if the universal force is calling for us to
return, for another round of hide and seek?"
Or maybe the big challenge is to stop asking these questions. Perhaps the
final path is to stop chosing paths in the first place. Maybe we are given
one illusion after the other, and its how we accept this, and find an
equilibrium within this given illusion, physical or otherwise to develope.
To try and escape into another illusion (astral) or to cling fearfully to
this one (physical) may be equal deformities.
*shrug*
Or maybe the term deformity is an illusion as well, and I'm just being
presumptuous to think that we can go against the game that is existance at
all. Everything is a manifestation of the light no? Even darkness...

In a weekly group I attended this evening the subject matter got
tangled up around a members suicide last week. The usual debates
about suicide were pushed aside when one member made a remark that is
the reversal of this. I do not recall his exact wording but basicly
he was saying that the reason for spiritual quests to rejoin
the 'collective' is a backwards step for those who are unable to keep
up with the progress of spirit. And it is those who can not cut it
wish to return to what is already known, and comfortable. The
advanced spiritual persons are those who have the courage and the
staying power to move beyond what is known, to stick it out on *this*
plane. He supports his ideas with, among other things, that anyone
can die, and be sucked back into the big spiritual all, although
(most) cling to life here as long as possible physical death is still
inevitable. Yet,The search for immortality in the physical has been
an obsession for mankind.
It made me think, *what if* we have been side tracked with getting
back to where we have already been and we are being led by our
heartstrings backwards in our evolution and not forward .
*what if*?
It does not seem so far fetched an idea as it did at first. It is
said that we all have abilities like ESP and the ability to do these
astral things, and we already know all there is to know and there is
this great ALL that we are all a part of. *what if* that is true and
our insistance on trying to return to that ALL turns out to be the
end all of our evolution.
*what if* our dissatisfation with the rough road in the physical and
our quest to return to the old but known and comfortable and safe
turns out to be the destrution of our spiritual species, like the
creatures who no longer thrive because they could not adapt.________
