Hello,

Since joining the List I've read so many accounts of "bad" experiences, unwanted experiences and totally awful consequences in dealing with Kundalini energy. Shortly after I signed on I started Kundalini yoga instruction with the Sikhs in my area. I live near Espanola, NM, an international center for the Sikh Dharma. I was told many things about Kundalini yoga, one, that it's "dangerous," to the opposite viewpoint that if you want to learn Kundalini yoga -- go to the Sikhs. I have to say, it's been a great experience! Kundalini yoga, as taught by Yogi Bhajan, is an extremely spiritual experience, incorporating mind, body and beyond. If people are having problems with the energy in any kind of way, I honestly urge you to find the Sikhs in your area and request guidance and instruction -- for yoga, nutrition, lifestyle and anything else that will transform Kundalini energy into healing energy for you. (Maybe I should stress lifestyle! lol!) You can find references on the Internet to Yogi Bhajan and 3HO.

Regarding the books that Jacques recommended (thanks Jacques!), it was interesting to read the reviews on Amazon. Here is an excerpt from the above book that speaks to the Sikh/Kundalini issue:

"Interestingly, in noting Sri Yogananda, she reports, almost dejectedly, that devotees of his path in whom Kundalini processes are awakened generally do not experience adverse effects. Without delving into why this is so and exploring other Hindu, Buddhist, Taoist, Sikh, and Yogic lineages that present methods for gradual catharsis of consciousness and neurology (which is what the Kundalini process essentially is), she misses the real mystery of Kundalini, the "why" of how things go awry, and the key to helping individuals who experience untoward effects."

Personally, I'm experiencing some amazing things! This coming week my instructor, who is initiated in Sri Yogananda's Kriya yoga, is going to show me the Kriya he first taught in the US. (Jason, I'm making headway!) ;-) I hope what I've written might help someone...

Love,

Hety
