I don't think I ever mentioned this on the list, but a
similar thing happened with me 10 years ago. In my case
it was my girlfriend who was shot and the killer got away
(he first planned to shoot us both).

The grief would come and go like waves. It's still a
part of me and I may never "get over" the horror,
but I feel it has made me tougher through the years.

You're going to make it through better than you
think. I'm here for you and so are others... but
you might not even need any help. Your automatic
pilot kicks in during the heavy stuff (ask people
in Lower Manhattan) and you might not be aware
of it.

It's *you* who may well be helping *me* some day.
