Having a partner who is not understanding of awakening is fairly common theme
here on the list. My girlfriend is very materialistic--"if it can't be
measured, weighed, or even seen then it is not possible to determine it's
value." Her attitude has caused me to seek outside the relationship for
people with whom I can discuss esoteric topics. Thus, I am on the K-list and
spend several hours each week with my meditation group.

She is tolerant of all this acitivity but doesn't really comprehend what all
the excitement is about. From time to time I do try share some of the more
intense or poignant events in meditations or topics off the list.

"That's very nice" is the usual response.

Mystress Angelique once wrote in response to this same topic. The words
struck home for me: "Only one Zen Master per household". I have come to see
that having a mate who is not on a "path" as a motivation to go out and seek
others who are and this in turn gives me more viewpoints with which to
compare my own and more people from whom I can learn learn.

You could think of it this way: at home you have to be "Clark Kent", but to
be Superman/woman you have to go out into the world and interact.
