Hi, Shelle,

I do think we are drawn to whatever reading matter/experiences we need
in order to work out whatever puzzle we are currently addressing. A
couple years ago I was exploring the topic of "service" because I
didn't understand how a person could be in service to another without
feeling inferior. I get it now, but some of the best lessons for me
about that came from reading British fantasies. They have that Sacred
King archetype going that I as an American hadn't experienced & it gave
me a different perspective. . .

I have a (brilliantly intellectual) friend who calls romance novels
"popcorn for the mind." Personally, I am addicted to the Regency
romances of Jane Austen & Georgette Heyer. I say read what moves you.
You don't really get much mileage out of being a snob anyway, unless
you feel overwhelmed & need to set limits for yourself. There are
reasons things have mass appeal, & sometimes the reasons are good!

Love, Carol
