On 2002/06/27 10:03, Meredith, Justin posted thus to the K-list: your misinterpreting what i said earlier. it would be logical to assume that
if humans evolved from apes (or hominids) then apes evolved from another
similar mammal - something very similar to an ape. if apes did not exist
when the dinos did, than they evolved from something that existed back when
they did. this is just a theory though, it's not like it's a proven fact.
the reality of the beginning of our existence could be different from that
which is commonly accepted.

Not really. The common ancestor could have been
something like the tree shrew, a small mammal . . . the
idea is that there were no apes or ape-like creatures
nor humans when the split happened. The ape-like
creatures came a long time after the split. And of
course, if we going back far enough, according to the
theory, all mammals evolved from a common ancestor too,
which was probably something fish-reptile like. So it's
not just the chimps and apes who are our relatives, but
every species on earth is our cousin. I can't wait for
 the family reunion!
