Hi, Kundalini Yoga, using meditation as a tool, provides techniques for
attaining insight and finding one's identity (the real person, authentic
self). It is used to rid oneself of psychological or physical problems and
to bring about a change in behavior and feelings. The goals of meditation
are self-actualization(development of one's creative abilities)
inner-directed (intuitive sense) integration of the personality,
tranquility, wisdom, enjoyment, efficiency, in charge of one's life.
Meditation may also bring one closer to a deity and this brings about a
special kind of awareness. This requires one to embrace a stenuous
discipline and it requires a highly skilled teacher. This is called the path
of inner development. For those of us who have analytical minds we need to
start with insight therapy to give us an understanding of the psychodynamics
of our own personalities. This helps us to become more aware of the
unconscious propensities that can give rise to serious problems;
emotionally, physically and environmentally(relationship level). This
self-analysis enables us to to develop our individual creative potentials
and our reasoning and critical thinking capacities. The methods( mediatation
and self-analysis) are different but the goals are essentially the same. We
need more people actively working on themselves to achieve these goals.
Society in general would be benefitted. I hope this gives you some
understanding. Lillian
