Teaching of the Cherry Blossoms

Sitting outside today
I, in ignorance asked my teacher to explain
this path to me
Which way do I go?
I cried
and my teacher turned to me, smiled and replied
"Make your mind a well rooted tree
So that the wind of doubt cannot simply push you over
Liken desire to over-ripe fruit or dead leaves
Let go of that which weighs you down
to anxiety, depression, fear and anger
Let your heart be the open sky
Nourishing, calming, uncontainable in truth
And let your path be here, now
breathing in
breathing out
When we sit this way, we blossom
In both storm and rain
Drought and Cold
If silence helps to still a rage or doubt
Be silent like the cherry blossom folded at night
Be silent and wait for the sun to warm your heart
Enlighten your mind
and show you that there is no path to "walk"
Nor "you" to walk."

However, if I give you enough space and freedom
to grow and you give me enough space and freedom
to grow then perhaps with time and practice and
patience, we can all grow together utilizing these
differing views. The earth is covered with blossoms
and trees and creatures of all varieties. The key
factor in this growth is the nourishing capability
of the earth. The Dharma is equally nourishing
and equally lovely. How fortunate is this practice.
With your hands folded together in meditation
or prayer, you are a flower and in creating peace
within yourself you are offering peace to this
world and all worlds. With your stillness and
dedication you are rooted, bringing all of the beauty
of the earth, life and the Dharma to full bloom.
