Hello Cynthia...
I'm putting two definitions directly from Tibetan Dictionaries...Jim Valby (JV) and Rangjung-Yeshe (RY) The "phenomena" you describe I believe are called 'thig le' which means literally 'sphere' or 'orb'. They denote any number of things...depending on which context they are cognized in or from. You're correct in feeling like they may possibly come from within. You will experience them in conjunction with an increase in body heat or energy (K) or channeled energy; (bathing and/or exercising) would be sufficient depending on your own sensitivity. Here's the somewhat limited list of the functionality of "Thig le"
thig le
*m#-;{- JV bindu, sphere, bead, drop, solid circle, essence, sphere of light, spherical drop, spot, dot, droplet, seed-essence, vitalizing energies, creative potentiality, potential being, life-force, responsiveness, semen, sperm, virile, ornamental mark on forehead, creative fluids, a controlling-structuring process group-patterned by bag-chags, pure potency with no structure of its own, empty nature of the energy, eye on peacock's feather, female monthly discharge, luminous sphere of 5 colors of the rainbow representing the principle of the potentiality of all visions whether pure or impure, seeds of light, bodhicitta, sphere of rainbow light , luminous sphere
RY 1) spheres or circles, drop, dot, spot, ring, nimbus, circle, zero, bindu, center, The red and white essences. 2) dot over a letter representing the anusvara. 3) colored mark on the forehead between the eyes. 4) semen. seminal point. the nucleus or seed of the enlightened mind, white and red seminal fluids of the physical body, seminal points of light; sperm, vital essence - sphere. bindu; sphere (of being); drop; tiny sphere, essence, bindu; Tika, tilaka, essence; sphere.. Bindu. 1). Essences. 2). Circles or spheres.

They are generally associated with the "airs" or "winds" (referring to bodily energies) just prior to, during or after an encounter with some portion of what here on this list is called 'K'. In Tibetan philosophyand science they are closely associated with the process of awakening, and vary in duration from just a glimpse of them to virtually any length of time. They are most usually transitional and appear as "sparkles" and lights of varying colors and intensities. This means (by transitional) that they are, each "sparkle" very brief or short lived, but get their notion of duration by many occurances over and over again in any "time" period. They're a good sign and even often give birth to legends of Faieries and Pixies!
How's this for my first official attempt at helping on this list? lollol! ;-))
Love and Bless All, all Ways
