  Have you read "Shaman, Healer, Sage by Alberto Villoldo". This author answers your question very well in Chapter 1 "Healing and Infinity" and especially in the part titled "The Quest for Spirit",and Chapter 3 The Luminous Energy Field". He had been studying the brain as a clinical professsor at San Francisco State University, when he found the more he learned about the brain, the less he knew about the soul. He then looked into Anthropological stories from around the world. He traded his laboratory for hiking boots and a ticket to the Amazon. He wanted to meet the people who sensed the spaces between things and perceived the luminous strands that animate all life and study with the investigators who knew the energy side of Einsteins's equation E =MC2. The things that he learned convinced him to change the way he healed, the way he aged and the way he choses to die.
  When he talked of the luminousity that he learned to see when a person is dying and passing to the other side in chapter 3 it definately convinced me that the brain, the body and the spirit are all connected.
  I was really impressed by this man and the information that he shared, possibly you would like to read what he experienced.

  This is a question maybe someone can clarify or has some opinions
  about. Where do you draw the line between your brain and your soul,
  for example can you sould do mathematical reasoning or is that ur
  brain? Are emotions caused by astral stuff or by chemicals? If
  memories are stored in your brain, how is it possible for people have
  memories of a past life? Can a soul or stral body be capable of
  something like speech and communication, even though a part of the
  brain is responsible for this?

  Any opinions or thoughts would be most cool.
