As someone who has attended Unitarian-Universalist churches for years, I
can *guarantee* that all UUs don't think alike! The diversity is almost a
point of pride among congregations (though they don't always look so proud
if I mention my gun collection. heh...maybe I'm just a little *too*
diverse? They love me anyway, dear souls that they are.)

Our tiny congregation has Christians, atheists, people who are just there
for the soup and conversation, intellectuals, earthy-types, Pagans, Jews,
political and social activists, mostly-reclusive types... amazingly diverse
considering the surrounding community.

One thing I do notice in common, though, is that the group will usually
give sincere people a chance. When confronted with something new and
unusual, the "UU way of looking at things" tends to make the group give
people space to be who they are. If one person voices a lack of respect for
a person or their beliefs, there will usually be others ready to jump in to
remind them that one of the fundamental things that makes a person UU is
the belief in the inherent dignity of every person and the basic respect
for all people.

The basic UU principles tend to assure that Unitarian-Universalists will
*always* be surrounded by people who think alike about the seven principles
(http://www.uua.org/aboutuua/principles.html) but get pretty divergent past
that common ground.

Love,
Magdalene
